Christian Open Space
A Street, Fountain, CO 80817
Palmer Land Conservancy invites you to discover the Palmer-protected haven of Christian Open Space—a hidden gem along Fountain Creek closed to the public.
This rare opportunity grants you exclusive access to explore this sensitive riparian habitat while joining fellow land lovers to restore this section of creek. As part of the Fountain Creek Watershed District's Creek Week—the largest watershed-wide cleanup in Colorado—you’ll help protect the heart of this local ecosystem.
Witness the secret world where local wildlife take sanctuary, all while helping to clean up this protected landscape. This is your chance to experience and care for a landscape that the public cannot access. The difference you make here ripples throughout our entire watershed, creating a legacy of care that extends far beyond a single day of service.
Palmer Land Conservancy will equip you with everything needed for this special mission—gloves, trash bags, and other supplies—plus water and light snacks to fuel your conservation adventure.
Please come prepared to be outdoors with layers, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) long pants, and sturdy close-toed shoes. A full water bottle is also highly recommended.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Carrie Supino at [email protected].

Join Palmer Land Conservancy for a community cleanup event at Runyon Lake. This event is part of Fountain Creek Watershed District's Creek Week, the largest watershed-wide cleanup in the state of Colorado. We'll work to remove trash and fishing lines from the Runyon Lake shoreline, which provides critical habitat for nearly 250 bird species and more than eight types of fish.
Runyon Lake (formerly known as Fountain Lakes) was originally used as a dredge pond for the Rocky Mountain Steel Mill, it is approximately 35 acres in size, and is fed by the Arkansas River.
Equipment and supplies for the cleanup will be provided on-site—gloves, trash bags, and other supplies—plus water and light snacks to fuel your conservation adventure. Stick around to enjoy pizza (compliments of Fountain Creek Watershed District) at 11:45 a.m.
Bike the Bessemer 2025

Sat, October 4 | 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Pueblo
Grab your bike and hit the trail with Palmer Land Conservancy for our 5th annual Bike the Bessemer event – a fun-filled and educational ride showcasing Pueblo County’s premier agricultural lands and important water resources.
Whether you joined us last year or this is your first time saddling up with Palmer, there will be something for everyone at this year's Bike the Bessemer. Your morning will include a scenic 15 mile bike ride with stops at local farms where you will receive a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their operations. Along the way, we will ride near the historic Bessemer Irrigation Ditch and learn about the importance of this critical water resource to maintaining Pueblo’s agricultural heritage.
After your ride, enjoy a refreshing beverage and a delicious farm-to-table lunch (included with your registration) featuring seasonal ingredients sourced directly from the farmers in Pueblo County, catered by Soul Smile Health & Wellness. This year’s event will also feature an on-site Farmers Market of local producers so that you can shop-til-you-drop to directly support Pueblo farmers and their agricultural legacy.

Grassroots Gravel Aid Station - Sponsored by Palmer
Sat, October 11
Pueblo
Friends, we are sponsoring an aid station for Grassroots Gravel, and we need your help! Grassroots Gravel is a partner for Bike the Bessemer, and they put on a world-class gravel race that is accessible to everyone. We’ll be providing hydration, snacks, fist bumps, and encouragement for the riders passing our station—we expect about 450 riders!
Join a fun team of volunteers and help with set-up, assembling snacks, keeping drinks stocked, and remaining flexible and available to make sure riders get the drink or food they need to finish their race strong. At the end of the shift, help break down and clean up the rest stop.
