Position Summary

This is a new, dynamic position at Palmer Land Conservancy that will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful conservation work in the Pikes Peak region by building a stronger conservation community through events, outreach, and engagement. Palmer Land Conservancy is gearing up for significant organizational growth to ensure the success of our new 5-year strategic plan, Land for Life. People are conservation’s greatest resource, and we’re excited to grow our team to ensure timely and successful conservation outcomes across southern Colorado. Palmer’s team is growing from eleven to seventeen staff members and the new Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) will play an important role in coordinating our community engagement programming in the Pikes Peak region through a variety of events and community outreach efforts. This position plays a key role with building broad awareness and support for Palmer and land conservation in southern Colorado.

The Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) will report to the Membership and Events Manager and work closely with the entire External Affairs team to produce high quality experiences, events, and programming.

Palmer Land Conservancy is one of the leading nonprofit land conservation organizations in Colorado. Since its incorporation in 1977, the organization has protected more than 138,000 acres including 20 public parks and open spaces, working farms and ranches, critical water resources, wildlife habitat, and scenic views. Palmer is one of the twenty largest local land trusts in the country based upon conserved acreage holdings (there are approximately 1,700 land trusts in the United States), and it is one of the country’s first 100 nationally accredited land trusts. Core Responsibilities

Coordinate Palmer’s eventsthat build awareness, membership, and retention as well as support for permanent land and water protection in Colorado.

  • Coordinate the production of Palmer’s signature events including the Colorado Conservation Awards, Bike the Bessemer, Women in Conservation, and more. Duties include event production, overseeing the guest experience, working closely with the philanthropy team on event sponsorships, and coordinating with the communications team on invitations, marketing and communications.
  • Work closely with the philanthropy team to manage event production and programming for member and new member cultivation and stewardship events including Women in Action luncheon series, Millennium Society member events, Land Lover events including the annual BBQ, dinners, hikes, and other outdoor excursions and other experiences as needed.
  • Help produce events associated with Palmer’s community impact campaign.
  • Identify opportunities and act as Palmer representative at various community outreach events in the Pikes Peak region, including farmers markets, industry and community events, regional mission-aligned festivals, outdoor activity clubs, etc.
  • Capture compelling digital content (photos, videos) for documenting events as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of event and marketing supplies; re-order supplies
  • Work with volunteers associated with Palmer events.

Community Engagement:

  • Build relationships and partnerships with community partners to support community engagement and organizational momentum.
  • Help educate the Pikes Peak community about Palmer’s mission and impact
  • Assist with the distribution of Palmer’s regional guides and magazine across the region.

 
Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of successful related work experience working in event management, fundraising, communications, and/or marketing.
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks, have great attention to detail and superb organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a team environment and a collaborative approach to working on projects.
  • Passion and commitment to conservation, local food, outdoor recreation, and land protection.
  • A willingness and excitement to engage a variety of demographics in land and water conservation
  • Excellent and creative verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced working environment and within a variety of technology platforms
  • Proficiency with the following or similar software: Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, Mail Chimp, and basic office communication channels (e.g., email)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel for events or other work-related activities - travel expenses will be reimbursed.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule with some evening and weekend hours for events, especially in the summer months.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range is $50,000 – $58,000 DOE.
